**Adoption Council of Canada
The Adoption Council of Canada (ACC) is the umbrella organization for adoption in Canada. Based in Ottawa, the ACC raises public awareness of adoption, promotes placement of waiting children and stresses the importance of post-adoption services. Their services include a quarterly newsletter, a resource library, referrals, and conference planning.
**Financial Links
International adoption is expensive as there are many fees to cover such as agency fees, homestudy fees, translation fees, orphanage or country fees, travel, accomodations and other small fees. International adoption can range between $16,000-$40,000 depending on the country a family chooses to adopt from. Luckily, there are a couple of options for financial assistance:
National Bank of Canada
This bank offers a loan specifically for adoption. They will lend up to $20,000 with a very low interest rate. Usually monthly payments are about $170. The loan is stretched out over several years rather than the regular 5 years. You can visit the Ch'town and S'side branches for more details.

Orphans' Hope Adoption Grant
Orphan's Hope is a non-profit organization based in Ontario. They give out $10,000 grants to adopting families across Canada. Families who qualify to apply have their names put in a "draw" for 12 consecutive months. Some months, several families recieve the $10,000 and some months only 1 family receives the grant. There have been several PEI families who won this grant!

Fundraising
Several families have chosen to fundraise part of their adoption expenses. Most countries require a "donation" to help with orphanage needs and caring for the children. This can range from $3000-$7000, depending on the country. Some families have been very successful in raising the money for the orphanges through their church, community and family. Some ideas for fundraising are: Silent Auctions, Concerts, Pancake Breakfasts, Special Dinners, Baby Bottle Drive, Golf Tournaments...

**Immunizations to prepare for travel
NetDoctor is a great website to find up to date information on which vaccines are necessary for different countries (Ethiopia, China, Russia, Columbia, etc...). Click HERE. The best idea is to talk with other families who have traveled to specific countries. Most common vaccines are Hep A & B (Twinrix), Typhoid, Yellow Fever and Tetnus. (see "Supports" page for contacting other families)
**Canadian Adoption Agencies
The agencies listed below can be used by PEI families to facilitate international adoptions. Choosing an agency is a very important part of the international adoption process as they will be helping and guiding families throughout the whole journey. Please contact other families to hear more about personal experiences with each agency. (see "Supports" page to connect with other families).
